
Lecturer Ken Kurusu and BA Lingg Alumna Florinda Palma Gil, lecturer at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), presented at the 4th International Conference on Multidisciplinary Filipino Studies 2025 in the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Manila last 25-27 September 2025. Lecturer Kurusu presented his paper entitled “Kailangan ng Competition ni Grab?: The Use of Personal Name Marker to Common Nouns in Filipino” and together with BA Lingg Alum Palma Gil, presented the paper he co-authored with her entitled “Pagpapaunlad ng Materyal sa Pagturo ng Wikang Filipino na Nakabatay sa CEFR: Sa Konteksto ng mga Kursong Extramural sa Japan.” The conference was co-organized by the UST College of Education and the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. The founder and one of the organizers of the conference is MA Lingg Alum Rodney Jubilado.
The conference was organized with the theme “Filipino for Sustainable Development” with the aim of fostering collaboration and scholarly exchange, providing a meaningful platform and dialogue for issues, events, and other processes related to Filipinos, and establishing a legacy of scholarship on the Filipinos in the Philippines and the diaspora. The event is part of the 100th Founding Anniversary of the UST College of Education.
