The Linguistics Special Lecture Series (LSLS) features talks by invited experts on various topics under the fields of theoretical and applied linguistics. As part of the Lingg Month 2026 celebration, and in cooperation with the UPD Department of Anthropology, LSLS No. 5 features Trixie Marjorie Tangit, PhD, lecturer at Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
Taking Tagalog tahanan (“home”) vs. Malay tahanan (“custody”) as a lens, Trixie Marjorie Tangit, PhD, explores how language planning in Sabah transformed a sanctuary of identity into an administrative cage—and why true belonging resists state engineering.
