The Department warmly congratulates Asst. Prof. Noah Cruz on winning third place at the Loretta Makasiar Sicat (LMS) Prize for the Social Sciences! The award is given for his thesis, “Ang Pagtatasa sa Sigla ng mga Wika at Diyalekto sa Pilipinas: Kalagayan at Patutunguhan,” supervised by Assoc. Prof. Tuting Hernandez and funded in part by the OVCRD Thesis and Dissertation Grant.
The LMS Prize “seeks to promote the social sciences and honor the legacy and contribution of Dr. Loretta Makasiar Sicat for making the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) the leading institution in the promotion of the social sciences and one of the country’s longest-running and financially viable non-profit organizations.” Sicat was the executive director of the PSSC from 1977 to 1984.
Cruz was also the recipient of the UPD Student Publication Award for Exemplary Research and Creative Work for his journal article, “Malalimang Pagtalakay sa Dalawang Pangunahing Lápit sa Pagtatása sa Sigla ng mga Wika sa Pilipinas.” This work is also based on his thesis.
Padayon, Sir Noah!
