Department Chair Maria Kristina Gallego, PhD and Assistant Professors Elsie Marie Or and Francisco Rosario, Jr. will be heading a lecture-workshop on language documentation at the Saliklinang 2024: Dokumentasyon ng Wika on 25 to 26 April. The event was organized by the Center for Literary and Language Studies (CLLS) of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), in cooperation with the PUP College of Arts and Letters.
The workshop will cover the fundamentals of language documentation, including ethical issues, fieldwork planning and outcomes. Data collection and processing will also be practiced, which covers the hands-on designing of elicitation materials, recording of audiovisual data, annotating through computer software and archiving on online language repositories. Finally, the different factors affecting language vitality will also be examined: speakers, domains, language attitudes and policies.
