We are pleased to officially announce the addition of John Michael Vincent S. De Pano to the teaching force of the Department. Coinciding with the start of his MA Linguistics program, JM has started his journey as Teaching Associate (TA) with us this Academic Year 2022-2023. As a TA, JM will be handling undergraduate linguistics and Japanese language courses, under the supervision of regular faculty-in charge.
JM recently obtained his BA Linguistics degree (magna cum laude) last July 2022. Aside from majoring in linguistics, he also specialized in the Japanese language as a Plan C student. His research interests include language documentation, historical linguistics, comparative studies on Filipino and Japanese, and Japanese linguistics.
His appointment as TA was made possible through the UP Teaching Assistantship Program, which aims to “…give the finest students of UP the opportunity to share their knowledge and skills through teaching even while they are studying,” while contributing to reducing the teaching load of faculty who may devote more time to conducting research and extension service.
