Hapon and On and On: 100 Taon ng Pagtuturo ng Nihongo sa UP Diliman” was held last 25 November at the 2F Lobby of Palma Hall in celebration of a century of Japanese language teaching in the Department, marking the milestone through activities and performances.

With 13 interactive booths, students participated in karaoke, poem writing, (toy) fish-catching, cosplay, Kanji-pon, trivia games, and many others as they attempted to complete the stamp rally and get prizes. All throughout the day, Kuizu 100-nin ni Kikimashita, a game show similar in design to Family Feud, was hosted by Weng Alvarez-sensei and Cris Dofitas-sensei. Questions are based on the survey form given to students earlier in the semester, which asked them about their Japanese language skills and study habits.

Winners were given a variety of prizes, including Japanese food. The game let students create teams based on their sections, organizations, or friends.

A number of performances were also done, showcasing the students’ appreciation of Japanese culture through traditional and modern dances and songs. Among those who took the stage were UP Tomo-Kai and UP Anime and Manga Enthusiasts (AME). Hapon 11, Hapon 100-101, and Hapon 112 students also performed.

At the end of the event, some members of the Japanese language faculty gave short closing remarks.

“Hapon and On and On” was done with support from the Ada Garden Hotel Okinawa and the Frontier Resort. Representatives from the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, the Japan Foundation, Manila–who also brought tokens, and The Daily Manila Shimbun also visited and joined in the different booths’ activities.

Thank you to everyone who attended and participated, and see you in our next events! お疲れ様でした、皆さん!
