All sixteen (16) participants of the Department’s first-ever Filipino Korean-as-a-Foreign-Language (KFL) Teacher Training Program completed the intensive eleven-day Korean language education training facilitated by the Seoul Business School at aSSIST University (서울과학종합대학원) held from 11 to 21 July 2022, widening their knowledge and skills in teaching Korean to Filipino learners.

The trainees underwent courses and workshops on Korean language education, including courses on curriculum development (facilitated by Dr. Yumi Kim, aSSIST), lesson plan writing (taught by Dr. Seon-ae Nam, aSSIST; Dr. Mijeong Lee, Sungkyunkwan University), pronunciation education (taught Dr. Hyoseong Hwang, Seoul National University), understanding the Test of Proficiency in Korean (taught by Dr. Sukjin Lee, National Institute for International Education), and evaluation methods (taught by Dr. Yumi Kim, aSSIST).

They also took other courses, such as Modern Korean Literature (Dr. Seongsuk Kim, Yonsei University), Korean Media (Dr. Songhyun Joo, aSSIST), and Korean Society and Culture (Dr. Sangjun Lee, aSSIST), to gain more pedagogical knowledge beyond language on how to teach Filipino KFL students. Furthermore, the participants conducted grammar and speaking class demonstrations, where they received tips from Korean language education experts on how to better conduct their language classes.

As part of the enrichment program, the participants also went to a demilitarized zone (DMZ) tour in Imjingak and a company visit to publishing house Visang Education, to explore both historical and technological sides of Korean language and culture education.
