Lecturer Ken Kurusu is co-chair of the recently concluded 2nd International Conference on Migration Linguistics. The conference was held from 4-5 December 2025 at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila. Also at the conference are BA Alum Florinda Amparo Palma Gil presenting on Malaking balik sa pagbabalik: Career pathways of Filipino returnees turned Japanese language teachers and MA Alum Rodney C. Jubilado presenting on Fluid identity, linguistic status, and cultural resilience of the multi-generational Filipino Americans.
The 2nd International Conference on Migration Linguistics was convened with the theme “Migration Linguistics and Global South Perspectives.” As it was the first time it was held outside Japan, the conference focused on Global South perspectives on migration and its interaction with linguistic practices, language ideologies, and communicative norms.
