Last 15 November 2025, Lecturer Michael Manahan presented his talk titled “Worded Feelings: A Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) Approach to Emotion” at Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology’s (MSU-IIT) Center for Language Studies. The talk focused on the Filipino words for emotions, exploring the word takot or fear and other related words like kaba and pangamba. Using the NSM, the differences between these words were examined, and in the process, the lecture uncovered how Filipinos experience and express their emotions.
Since 14 November 2025, the Department has been in an official partnership with MSU-IIT and its Center for Language Studies. Several faculty of MSU-IIT are alumni or students of the Department including those who attended the official inking of the partnership such as the director of the Center for Language Studies, Honeylet E. Dumoran, PhD, and MSU-IIT Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan chair, Danilyn T. Abingosa, PhD.
