Asst. Prof. Elsie Marie Or is one of the speakers of a doctoral seminar on methodology and IT tools as they are applied to linguistics, language documentation, and interdisciplinarity. Asst. Prof. Or’s talk is entitled “Transcription in Linguistics Research: Tools, Issues, and Considerations.” It is a part of “Seminario di Metodologia e Strumenti Informatici Applicati alla Linguistica” which is on “Language Documentation and Interdisciplinarity. Methodology, Technology, Tools and Applications.” The seminar is organized by the Departamento Asia, Africa e Mediterraneo of the Universita Di Napoli L’Orientale and is held on 11 March 2026 at Palazzo Corigliano, Naples, Italy.
The seminar will tackle a variety of topics including oral traditions, multilingualism, and heritage languages in the context of Pakistan, Oceania, Indonesia, Eritrea, and the Maghreb. In particular, the seminar will focus on the role on the methods, tools, and applications of linguistic documentation methodology and the impact of technology applied to documentary linguistics, language teaching, and data archiving in these various contexts.
