As the second installment of the Linguistics Special Lecture Series (LSLS) 2025, the department featured a talk by Dr. Seunghun Lee, Senior Associate Professor of Linguistics at International Christian University, held last 11 March at CSSP Health & Wellness Center. The lecture focused on the phonetic structure of Kapampangan by analyzing its segmental properties using acoustic data.

Previous studies on Kapampangan, such as Bergano’s vocabulary list (1860) and grammar guide (1916), and other later studies (Catrillo 1955, Forman 1971, Mirikitani 1971, 1972, Kitano 2018) primarily focused on morphosyntax, laying the foundations for his work. Dr. Lee explored Kapampangan’s phonetic features, including its voicing, place contrasts in plosives and nasals, and the phonetics of fricatives and other sonorants.

By analyzing these features, Dr. Lee contributed deeper insight into the phonetic patterns that characterize Kapampangan speech.
