Associate Professor Jesus Federico Hernandez, Assistant Professor Elsie Marie Or, and MA Ling Candidate Samantha Sadural will be presenting their papers at the 16th International Conference of the Asian Association for Lexicography (ASIALEX), which will be held on 22-24 June 2023 at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.

Hernandez, who is currently a board member of ASIALEX, will be presenting a paper titled “What’s in a name? Onomastics, identities, and Philippine dictionaries.” He will also be facilitating a LexTeach workshop titled “Using dictionaries to understand family names, origins, and identity.”

Or will be presenting a paper titled “The treatment of selected function words in monolingual Filipino dictionaries,” while Sadural will be presenting a paper titled “Project Marayum (marayum.ph): Lexicographic issues and solutions.”

MA Ling alumni and current faculty members of the UP Diliman Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas, Associate Professor Althea Enriquez and Assistant Professor April Perez, will also be at the conference. Dr. Enriquez will be presenting a paper titled “Challenges of compiling a monolingual dictionary in a multilingual setting: Reports from a Filipino dictionary project,” and Perez will be presenting a poster titled “A preliminary access structure comparison-description of the KWF Diksiyonaryong Filipino (online version) and diksiyonaryo.ph.”
