Several faculty members and graduate students are at the Kyoto University Yoshida South Campus in Kyoto, Japan to present their papers at the 4th International Conference on Revitalization of Indigenous and Minoritized Languages. The conference covers topics such as linguistic diversity and revitalization, teaching and learning, language communities and sociocultural visions, and language and power.

Asst. Prof. Noah Cruz will be presenting his paper on “Language Vitality and Endangerment in the Philippines: Prospects for a Locally Informed Discourse.”

Instr. John Michael Vincent De Pano will be presenting his paper on “De vulgari eloquentia: On religion and language documentation in the Philippines.”

Asst. Prof. Ria Rafael will be presenting her work on “How do we save our languages? — Understanding revitalization programs in the Philippines.”

Lingg alumni Danilyn Abingosa, PhD will be presenting her work on “Lexical Variation of Javanese, Bahasa Indonesia, Meranaw, Filipino and Cebuano: A Preliminary Analysis” along with her co-authors Sittie Noffaisah Pasandalan from Mindanao State University and Fitria Rahmawati from the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.

This year’s 4th International Conference on Revitalization of Indigenous and Minoritized Languages is organized by the Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies, Kyoto University, Department of Linguistic Science and the Multilingual Society and co-organized by Linguapax Asia. The conference is being supported by the Kyoto University Foundation for Education and Research and Sangensha Co.
