Senior Lecturer Maria Concepcion Loren Chua was once again invited to teach a two-week Filipino language course at the Jeonbuk National University’s Southeast Asian Language Summer Camp, which was held from 26 June to 7 July 2023.

This year’s two-week Filipino language class was once again held online, and the seven (7) Korean students who signed up for the class focused on beginner expressions, grammar, and vocabulary. Chua noted that this year’s batch of students came from diverse backgrounds and held different motivations for learning Filipino. One student reported that they developed their interest in the Philippines after coming here for vacation and that they even watch Filipino movies. There were also students who were interested in the sociopolitical situation in the country and wanted to engage in deeper conversations with Filipinos in the Filipino language.

Chua plans to continue improving the curriculum and learning materials geared towards Korean learners, and make sure that the materials can be properly contextualized or localized to better engage Korean learners, while at the same time developing their appreciation for our Filipino language and culture.

Congratulations and job well done, Yen!
