UP Department of Linguistics Initiatives during the COVID-19 Pandemic

(1) LanguageWarriors PH
An initiative to create a network of translators to translate COVID-19 materials into the country’s many languages and dialects, in order to address gaps in information available to Filipinos that are in languages that they can easily understand. (2) Sanlibong Tagak
A thousand cranes and a collective wish to #endcovid19
An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes will be granted a wish by the gods.

(3) Linguistics Scholarship & Wellness Fund – Emergency Financial Assistance
Through the help of the donations from Lingg alumni, we have been able to send financial assistance to some of our Lingg majors whose families’ sources of income have been cut off due to the lockdown.

(4) UP Lingg Tambayan
In an effort to keep in touch with our students, staff and alumni during this period when mental health can easily decline due to social isolation, the UP Lingg Tambayan was created as a virtual space where we can continue to communicate with and support each other.
