Faculty members, graduate students, and alumni are in the Philippine Normal University (PNU) to participate in and read their papers at the 2nd International Conference on Language Endangerment (ICLE) from 09 to 11 October 2024. The event is co-organized by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF), PNU, UP Department of Linguistics, and the De La Salle University.

Associate Professor Tuting Hernandez will deliver his plenary talk, “Quo Vadis: Muling Pagsipat sa Diskurso ng Panganganib at Pagpapasigla ng mga Wika sa Pilipinas (Quo Vadis: Reframing the Discourse on Language Endangerment and Revitalization in the Philippines)” on Friday. He will also be joined by Instructor JM De Pano and Teaching Associate Patricia Asuncion for their paper presentation, “The Katig Collective: Mga Tunguhin sa Unang Pagpalaot.”

Meanwhile, Instructor Brian Salvador Baran will present “Pagsusuri at Dikotomiya ng =y at sing sa Linawis na Varayti ng Bantayanon bilang Inobasyong dulot ng Language Contact.”

MA Linguistics alums Benito Nolasco, Jr. and Edward Estrera, who both graduated earlier this year, will be disseminating their studies, “Nominalization of Verbal Structures in Arta, Ténap, Karaw, and Ilokano,” and “Existential, Possessive, Locative, and Indefinite Constructions in Selected Manobo Languages,” respectively. 

Finally, the following papers by current graduate students have also been accepted for presentation:

  • “Morpolohikal na Analisis sa Aspect-Marking ng Nominalisasyon ng Pandiwa sa Wikang Mëranaw” by Zinab Barataman (co-authored with Samia Mustapha)
  • “Panimulang Pag-aaral sa Sabkategorisasyon ng Pandiwa sa Wikang Mëranaw” by Noronsalam Bandrang
