The “Mga Awiting Bayan” Folk Song Series, a collection of notated folk songs from various Philippine ethnolinguistic groups, was launched last 26 September 2026 at the IBG-KAL Theater, U.P. Diliman during the “Luntiang Ani: The U.P. Cherubim & Seraphim in Concert: 55 Years of Joyful Singing” event. The project was spearheaded by Prof. Emeritus Elena Rivera Mirano of the Department of Art Studies of the College of Arts and Letters (CAL).
The following members and alumni of the Department of Linguistics provided the orthographies, translations, and notes on the song texts: Prof. Mary Ann Bacolod (Hiligaynon), Instr. Brian Baran (Cebuano), MA Lingg alum Sherma Beñosa (Ilokano), BA Lingg alum Hazel Ann Cipriano (Aklanon), MA student Rodessa Galao (Ibaloi), Asst. Prof. Noah Cruz and Asst. Prof. Ria Rafael (Tagalog), Asst. Prof. Francisco Rosario, Jr. (Pangasinan), and Assoc. Prof. Jesus Federico Hernandez (Bikol). The photo below shows Asst. Prof. of Anthropology and Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) Director Monica Fides Amada Santos (representing Prof. Emeritus Mirano and The U.P. Cherubim and Seraphim) handing the publication over to Prof. Bacolod.
Also completing the team were Prof. Sir Anril Tiatco (Kapampangan) and Asst. Prof. Popo Amascual of the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts of CAL.
