MA student Ethan Nicholas Salvador’s paper, “Exploring Stress Shift in Suffixation: A Case Study on Masbatenyo, Porohanon, and Bantayanon,” was given the Outstanding Graduate Paper Award during the 8th Linguistic Society of the Philippines International Conference (LSPIC) at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) last 25 April 2026

The theme of this year’s conference was “Charting Future-Proof Paths in Linguistics and Language Education.” Instr. Brian Baran was meanwhile a runner-up with his paper, “Adverbs in Unexpected Places: Mapping Positional Variation among Manner Adverbs in Two Bisayan Languages.” Other finalists from UP Lingg were TA Kat Jose (“Tracing semantic change of Malay loanwords in Tagalog using lexicographic data”) and MA Lingg alum Diane Manzano (“Bibliograpi ng Piling Linggwistikong Pag-aaral sa mga Wika ng mga Negrito sa Pilipinas”).
