BA Linguistics (Plan C – Korean) student, Symon Dela Cruz, won first runner-up in foreigner category of the 27th K-Speech World Contest. He also received the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Award at the competition. The grand finals of the contest was held at the National University of Singapore August 4, 2023.
Symon’s speech was titled “10년 후를 위한 약속 (A Promise In Ten Years)” in which he shared how his journey to learn the Korean language began as a K-pop fan and now how he is developing his skills to achieve his dream to be a Filipino-Korean translator in the future.
The K-Speech World Contest aims to encourage foreign learners of the Korean language all around the world by providing them a platform for communication and to foster mutual understanding of Korean culture and the participants’ home cultures.
