BA Linguistics (Plan C-Korean) student Lanalee Gale Landingin won first prize (최우수상) at the 26th K-Speech World Contest (세계한국어웅변대회) held in Changwon, Korea on 01 October 2022.

K-Speech World Contest is co-organized by the Korean Speech Association (한국스피치웅변협회 http://www.koreaspeech.kr/) and the Changwon City Government, and sponsored by the South Korea Ministry of Sports, Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Education Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ministry of Unification, and by the Geyongsangnam-do Provincial Government. The contest is open to Korean nationals, overseas Koreans, and foreigners willing to showcase their Korean and public speaking skills. 

Landingin’s speech was entitled, “The Philippines in the midst of Hallyu, Hallyu in the Philippines” and in her speech she detailed her thoughts on the influence of Hallyu on the Philippines and how Korea and the Philippines are building friendlier relations through cultural exchange and understanding. 

In addition to 24 Koreans and 5 overseas Koreans, there were 13 foreigners competing in the individual category, and 3 foreign-based groups who took part in the contest. Apart from the Philippines, countries including Australia, China, East Timor, France, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam were represented.
