Ontologist for AI Startup

A startup, MIND AI (https://www.mind.ai) is working on a brand new paradigm in artificial intelligence. We are looking to innovate REAL AI. Not just natural language processing but natural language reasoning. We need versatile talents who are interested in changing the world. This is not deep learning but something totally new. And we need people with open and creative minds.

We need someone who knows what language is, how meaning is related, and how it works. And
can explain it to human and machine, both in ontological representation. Knowledge of ontology
and epistemology (as per metaphysics) would help greatly.

Specifically, the Ontologist will work on the:

  • Development of domain-specific ontology
  • Development of common-sense ontology
  • Collaborate with other computational linguists to integrate data
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate degree in information science, linguistics, philosophy or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience using and developing formal ontologies
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical/functional ontology implementation for the engineers
  • Experience deploying ontologies
  • Experience in scripting
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other engineers and linguists
  • Ability to quickly understand and master novel frameworks
  • Minimum 2 years of experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Expertise in building ontologies, taxonomies, and semantic relation frameworks
  • Experience in programming in Python, Perl, or another scripting language
  • Experience in using grammars to interpret novel structures
  • Experience with statistical language modeling
  • Excellent communication, strong organizational skills, and detail oriented
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
  • Experience with Universal Dependencies & Penn Treebank II Tags
    Familiarity with the 3 the types of logical reasoning (Deductive, Inductive, and Abductive)

Computational Linguist for AI Startup

We need someone who knows what language is, and how it works. And can explain it to human
and machine, both. Natural language parsing and generation. Will interface with lexical parsers.
Knowledge of ontology and epistemology (as per metaphysics) would help greatly.

Specifically, the Computational Linguist will:

  • Provide analysis of natural language sentences to fit into our data model (universal dependencies & Penn Treebank II tags)
  • Measure and analyze the accuracy of the lexical parser
  • Work on scaling, contextualization/disambiguation, further development of knowledge representation
  • Development of common-sense ontology
  • Incorporation of existing knowledge bases (SUMO, YAGO, CYC etc)
  • Coordination with software engineers in implementation
  • Collaborate with other Computational Linguists to integrate data
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s or higher degree in a relevant field (related to linguistics)
  • 2+ years experience in computational linguistics (4+ years experience in related fields), language data processing, semantics, or philosophy of language
  • Experience with language annotation and other forms of data markup
  • Experience working with speech and text language data in multiple languages
  • Fluency in English (second language is a plus – Korean, Japanese, Chinese)

Qualifications
  • At least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, economic, statistics, etc.
  • 0-4 years’ work experience, preferably within consumer or trade marketing, analytics and insights or market research.
  • Fresh Graduates or Early Career Applicants are encouraged to apply.

Job Description
Skills & Experience
  1. Full understanding of the source language, including idioms and jargon.
  2. Native speaker of the target language – excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation plus ongoing engagement with the living language. Cultural sensitivity and extensive understanding of terminological/cultural nuances. 
  3. Excellent stylistic/writing skills in the target language, especially in the field of dialogue writing. 
  4. The ideal candidate will have strong linguistic skills in both English and Filipino, ideally having translation and/or subtitling experience. 
  5. Ability to self review and edit. 
  6. Ability to adhere to instructions, guidelines, and best practices and meticulous attention to detail. 
  7. Proactive and self-sufficient. Actively researching terms and content. Escalate questions and issues when necessary. Exercise good judgement in ambiguous situations. 
  8. Excellent time management to ensure all deadlines are met. 
  9. Knowledge of subtitling conventions and standard practices, e.g. condensing, rephrasing, reading speed, character limits, time codes, line and positioning compliance, safe areas and all restrictions (legal and otherwise) etc.
  10. Tech-savvy, a logical thinker, quick at adopting new tools and technologies. 
  11. Ideally has experience working with at least one popular subtitling software, e.g. EZTitles, Spot, WinCaps, Netflix Originator but not mandatory. 
  12. Awareness about the impact of subtitles on the audience’s enjoyment of the content. 
  13. Creative abilities to uphold the artistic intent of the content. 
  14. Ability to work on subtitle files on a weekly basis.

  1. Have an internet speed of around 10Mb/s.
  2. Can work on files in a private setting for confidential work.
